Seven Days • Jesus Pantocrator painting • Marius Black
Christ Pantocrator represents the dual nature of Christ, illustrating traits of both man and God. I was commissioned by the Shrine of Jesus the Divine word to reproduce a painting of their icon Christ Pantocrator.
The organizers had previously chosen another artist who was tasked to paint the icon, but she backed out at the last minute so I only had a limited time when I took over the project. It was scheduled to be unveiled on Easter Sunday, I only had more or less a week to make 12 x 8' canvas and to paint and finish the artwork. And thank God I was able to finish it!
With enough persistence and sacrificing a lot of sleep, I was able to complete it on Easter Sunday. It was truly a grueling task but also a learning and fruitful experience.
