My first title for this poetry book was actually "Prayers for Sale", and yes I did and want to write prayers to God that I’ve solemnly recited in my time speaking to Him. My poetry side comes out even in them, they’re too good to miss first I thought. Not that I was aiming to be poetic, after all the simplest prayer is the most effective, however, this kind of voice is too from Him, and I have no limits where to use it for I think it pleases Him.
Although I thought I’d keep these prayers solely for Him, as a way of making something special, something rare, and an on-the-spot composition only He will hear. That made it more appetizing for me to keep it between us. So Instead I opted for my daily doing, which is to start the day with Him and His word. Praying, reading the Bible, and watching Pastor Ed Lapiz’s sermons on YouTube. All of which enrich my day ahead, and bless me more, I’m more grateful, and thankful. In one of the poems I mentioned, that if I don’t have Breakfast With God, it’s like eating without washing one’s hands. And that's how it really feels to start my day without prayer.
With that, I’ll leave this book to you, this compilation is one of the twelve books I plan to self-publish this 2025. As a personal challenge, I was able to write 503 poems last year (2024). I hope that with this, you can use these poems to be closer to Him. I am in no way a Bible scholar, a saint, or a wannabe apostle, to say that these will really help you know Him better, but I hope it does. This is just coming from a sinner who is trying to do better.
With the power of the Holy Spirit, I was able to write instantly these gems, with Jesus in my heart I was able to be more compassionate with my words, and with God in mind, I was able to accomplish anything I set my mind to, and it’s a beautiful thing what it turned out to be. This is more glory for you oh, Lord!
"May glory be given to God in the highest heaven! And may peace be given to those He is pleased with on earth!" Luke 2:14
POETRY DIARY 2024 - In 2024, I challenged myself to write a poem a day, from January 1st to December 31st, up to 11:59 PM. My usual way of writing a poem was, writing down a few lines and leaving it for a few days or months, maybe years, until I was ready to add something to it. And even then, I usually discard the poem if it doesn’t lead to my liking when finished or if I couldn’t add anything to end it at all. I’m usually able to write about 10-15 complete poems a year, and if I’m able to collect 33 finished poems, I self-publish an independent poetry book like my Bunshin series.
As for my Poetry Diary Challenge of 2024, I was able to finish a total of 503 poems. I was able to write to the end of the poems as soon as I started, which was something I never thought I could do, forcing my way to write a finished poem on the spot in less than 5 minutes most of the time. And it didn’t at all feel forced; if anything, it felt more spontaneous, and the ones I wrote like these are the ones I really liked. I still wrote fragments of lines as a start of a poem and left them to be finished another day, but these too were finished quite easily once I got to them. I plan to release these poems this year, in 2025, and I have divided them into 14 separate books with an average of 35 poems per book. This book you hold in your hands is one of them. -Marius Black
